The link to the presentation about creating etchings, "Scratch that Etch," can be found here. I have also uploaded the video of the presentation to youtube at the following link. Enjoy!
Ted, thanks for making your clinic permanently available. I'm sure to need it when I tackle the F&C depressed side car, although I may change out the trucks. With respect to the ladder rungs that you illustrate on the side of a gondola, what are the ladder styles on the prototype -- wood or metal, and if possible what dimensions? Thanks!
Amazing work. The end view of the flatcar makes me want to model it. I hope you offer the parts soon. I was wondering why you don't use copper? I noticed in the chart you can have thinner cross sections. Maybe for the Equipco lattice type hatch rest.
Hello Fred- I ruled out copper, perhaps too quickly, because I believe it is softer than the other materials I am exploring. The details I am seeking to replicate are governed by the minimum standards that PPD publishes, so unless I require a super thin part (0.10mm) those minimum dims are a stronger factor than the thickness of the material. I will keep trying, though, and copper may have a home for some ultra thin applications
The ones I use are the 0.4mm head diameter rivets - link - https://model-motorcars.myshopify.com/collections/small-parts-hardware/rivets. They are modestly oversized, but are quite good for our use... def smaller than the comparable smallest from Tichy
Thank you for making these presentations so available, Ted. So kind of you!

The stiles on those cars, NYC Emergency gons, were metal zee bars. I believe they were 3' zees although I am not 100% certain
Delete3" not 3' !!!

ReplyDeleteHello Fred - reply below but one other thing... I will have these parts fairly soon, say within the next few months

DeleteGreat video presentation and pdf well detailed. Is there a source for the model motor car rivets on posts? The smallest I could find were .04mm
